All About Mrs. Larson
I am a graduate of Sam Houston State University. This year will be my 13th year of teaching, with 12 of those years in 4th grade. I love teaching fourth grade and my favorite subject is math.
I am married to my husband Aaron and we have two sons, William (7) and Carter (4). I enjoy spending time with my family, camping, being outdoors and shopping.
Students are currently working on a reading and math tournament we call "The Sugarbowl." Our tournament will take place over the course of 10 weeks and will be a review and preparation for the upcoming STAAR tests. Students will take weekly quizzes in math to earn pieces to an ice cream sundae. At the conclusion of the tournament, students will celebrate with an ice cream sundae party where each student will build a sundae with ingredients earned from the weekly quizzes!
-Math Tournament Homework
Math tournament homework will be handed out on Mondays. Problems 1-10 will be due and checked in class every Wednesday and problems 11-20 will be due and checked in class every Friday before the weekly quiz.

Math: Currently in math students are working through our Geometry unit. We are identifying points, lines, line segments, rays and types of angles. Students are also describing polygons based on their attributes. Students will measure angles with a protractor and identify lines of symmetry. We are still practicing long division problems. It is critical that your student is able to recall both multiplication and division facts quickly to help solve these problems. Please continue to work on recalling multiplication and division facts at home. Watch for graded math work to come home in Tuesday folders and discuss them with your child. Thanks for all you do!
Math Homework will be assigned on Mondays and is due that Friday. Students are welcome to turn in homework early if they wish. Students will write their assignments in their student planners kept in their binders when assigned. If students have a question about math homework, they are welcome to come by my classroom at 7:30 a.m. and I will be happy to assist them. Parents, if you have questions about the homework, please feel free to email me at email@example.com.
Ways to Help Your Student at Home
Ask your student questions about math in their everyday world. While in the kitchen, have them look at a measuring cup and discuss the fractions they notice. Have them look at various food items and find the amount of liquid or weight of the item. Discuss these measurement terms with your child and allow them to explore them. Ask your child questions about their school day. Prompt them to tell you one thing that happened that made them feel good and one thing that made them feel sad about their day. Have them explain what they did in math, and don't accept "nothing" as an answer. We always do something! =)
